Top 10 TV picks: September 9-15

Television critic Philip Wakefield chooses the 10 best shows on the box this week, for Tuesday, September�9 to Monday, September 15.



1. Inside New Zealand: Murder in the Pacific: Filmmaker Annie Goldson (Georgie Girl, Punitive Damage) investigates the political and moral complexities of the 2001 slayings of Fiji Red Cross chief John Scott and his better half Greg Scrivener.
TV3, 9.30pm Thursday.


2.Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Who would have thought Mike Hosking would want to be a game show host? Ten years after the BBC launched this world-wide phenomenon, New Zealand at last mounts its own version (albeit out of Melbourne to save money).
TV One, 8.30pm Tuesday.


3. Campaign �08: Ex-TVNZ news show boss Bill Ralston regroups for this series in which he interviews political party leaders about the key issues facing voters.
Sky News, 8.30pm Sunday (repeats Prime, 10.35pm Sunday).


4. Eli Stone: The Pushing Daisies of legal dramas stars Jonny Lee Miller as a San Francisco lawyer wHO sees cases differently later being diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. Entertainment Weekly judged it to be "solid as a rock candy".
TV2, 8.30pm Sunday.


5. Scrubs: The latest series ends sooner than usual because the Hollywood writers� strike untimely halted yield. The eighth season presumptively will be the last given stars Zach Braff and Judy Reyes, and creator Bill Lawrence have said they will quit at the end of it.
TV2, 8pm Wednesday.


6. Big Shots: The Practice�s Dylan McDermott, Titus� Christopher Titus and Alias� Michael Vartan star in a male spin on Sex & the City, about four golfing buddies wHO run magnanimous companies. The New York Times mentation it "one of television�s rare examples of successful farce".
TV2, 9.30pm Sunday.


7. True Stories Uncut: Hunting Emmanuelle: This documentary nearly the Deep Throat rival screened deuce years ago in Britain as part of a strand called The Dark Side of Porn. In the deeds is a $50 one thousand thousand prequel to the 35-year-old French enfranchisement.

8. Mythbusters Shark Special: Two-hour jaw-dropper about whether tactic like eye gouging and playing dead will cross thwart a shark attack.

9. Qantas Film and Television Awards: Delayed reportage of the inaugural, combined screen manufacture awards. Dominating the nominations is Outrageous Fortune, with 16.
TV3, 9.30pm Saturday.


10. The Late Show With David Letterman: Guests include John Malkovich (Tuesday), Keira Knightley (Wednesday), Jada Pinkett-Smith (Thursday), Meg Ryan (Friday) and Jessica Simpson (Monday).
Prime, post-11pm weeknights (1.35pm weekday repeats).

Winfrey opens season with Phelps, other Olympians

CHICAGO �

Gold medalists Michael Phelps, Nastia Liukin and Kobe Bryant, along with 150 other U.S. Olympic team members, will be on the season premiere of "The Oprah Winfrey Show."


Winfrey plans to tape the show at Chicago's Millennium Park on Wednesday.


Harpo Productions says Winfrey intends the show as a "receive home celebration" and a chance to showcase Chicago as the city bids for the 2016 Summer Olympics.


Other athletes expected to attend include the beach volleyball gold medal team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, gold medallion basketball players Carmelo Anthony, Lisa Leslie and Dwyane Wade, and silver medallion swimmer Dara Torres.


The 23rd season premier of Winfrey's talk show will tune September 8th.
