First Blu-ray Disks Appear In Supermarkets

The introduction of Blu-ray movies at DVDPlay rental kiosks at Safeway-owned supermarkets in California has been described as "a great experience" by Tom Szwak, vice president of video for DVDPlay. "Throughout 2009, we front forward to seeing the number of kiosks we operate in their stores expand." DVDPlay is the first major video cubicle operator to offer the high-definition Blu-ray disks for rent. (Industry leader Redbox does not.) Currently it charges $1.49, the same price it charges for established DVDs.
